A metaphor of basic things

A philosophy professor was standing in front of the class on the desk... When the class started, without saying a word, he took a big and empty jar, that he filled up with golf balls. He asked the sudents if the jar was full and they agreed that it was.

Then the professor picked up a box of small rocks and poured them into the jar, shaking it a little. The small rocks filled the gaps within the golf balls. He asked the students again if the jar was full, and the agreed that it was full again.

After that the professor picked a box with sand wich he poured it in the jar. Normaly the sand has filled the jar completly. He asked them again how is the jar now and the students shout : „fuuuulll”!!!

The professor got 2 cups of cofee from under the desk and poured them into the jar filling it up definitely. After they’ve stoped laughingthe professor said: „Now I would like you to understand that this jar represents your lifes.

The golf balls represent the important things for you: family, kids, health, friends, passions. If all of these were lost besides this, your life would also be full.

The small rocks represent the other things that matter: work, car ; and the sand represents the rest of the small things in life. If you’re starting with the sand , you won’t have any place to put the golf balls and the small rocks.

It’s the same concept in real life, if you waste your time and energy for small things, you won’t have time for the important things. Pay attention to the important things, for your happiness. For the begining pay attention to the golf balls, becouse they count the most.

Set your priorities, the rest it’s just sand ! ”

One of the students raise their hand and asked what the 2 cups of cofee represent.
The professor smiled: „I’m glad you asked me this, the cups just want to show that, no matter how full your life is, theres always place for 2 cups of coffee, whit a friend”
Sorry for my english but i like this verry much.
You can lear something :)
